The Frustrations Of Turning Forty Years Old

When I was younger, I'd say in my early twenties, I could work sixteen hours a day and really not have many aches and pains the next day. Not so now at age forty. Oh my, if I work in the yard for several hours cutting grass or trimming trees, I really feel it the next day. I wonder why mom never told me that when I would enter into these middle aged years, these things would begin to happen. I have three children who are all older than sixteen years of age now. I have instructed them all to make money and work hard while they are young because when you hit my age, things begin to go down hill. I mean, even when I am asleep at night, I russel with uncomfortable aches. I have gotten into the habit of taking a Benadryl before going to bed to help me sleep more soundly. I am amazed at how that little pink pill will knock me out for eight hours.
These are just a couple of many things that I have begun to experience at age forty. I now wear glasses to help me read, take Benadryl to help me sleep. I didn't mention this but I get really bad heart burn too. Especially if I eat spicy foods or drink moderate amounts of Coke or Pepsi. You know, apart form having poor eyesight, a few aches and pains and heart burn, I am doing OK for being in my mid forties. Actually, I have a lot to be thankful for at my age as gratitude relates to my physical condition. I am in pretty good shape.
I'm not really sure what they call this perhaps it's being over the hill. All I know is the frustrations of turning forty years old have become very evident. I really wish that someone had told me a few of the things that I am about to share with you.
Let's just start with my poor eyesight at age forty. It was not long ago that I had great vision. Then one night as I was reading by the window, in my favorite chair, I noticed things were blurred when I closed my right eye. Well maybe it was my left eye. Both of them now at age forty seven are not returning poor eyesight. Anyway, I was shocked to discover that I was not able to see clearly. For the longest time I put off getting reading glasses until finally one night in frustration, I made a trip to Walgreens. Maybe it was Walmart, in any case, I was forced to purchase a set of reading glasses. It was either buy them now or never read again.
